Study Visits
An foreign study visit involves travel to a leading foreign academic institution to observe and understand systemic solutions implemented at the host university to enhance staff competencies in the following areas:
- Teaching competencies (including the use of modern teaching methods and educational methodologies);
- Digital competencies;
- Green transformation initiatives and universal design practices.
The visit also aims to exchange experiences, establish international cooperation in these areas, and foster a collaborative learning community focused on improving the quality of education.
A domestic study visit involves travel to a leading national academic institution to enhance the teaching competencies of academic staff, focusing on methods, forms, and conditions supporting academic educators. This initiative aims to build a comprehensive system for continuously strengthening the academic and teaching potential of university staff.
The funding covers:
- Travel costs (airfare, coach, or train tickets only);
- Travel allowance;
- Daily subsistence allowance (5/6/8 allowances based on the applicable ministerial rates for the host country);
- Hotel allowances (4/5/7 nights, according to the applicable ministerial rates for the host country).
Note: The project does not cover visa fees or additional costs.
From 1 July 2023, participants must book and purchase their own airline, train, and coach tickets for foreign trips through any carrier. Tickets should be purchased only after approval of the travel application.

When planning a study visit, ensure that the visit period does not include public holidays in the host country, as these days are ineligible for funding and will be considered non-reimbursable.
Detailed recruitment information will be provided before the start of the recruitment process for study visits.
The study visit duration, including travel days, is as follows:
- Domestic study visits: 6 days;
- Foreign study visits focused on teaching competencies: 8 days;
- Foreign study visits focused on digital competencies: 5 days;
- Foreign study visits focused on green transformation competencies: 5 days.
Upon acceptance for the study visit, participants must submit the following document to the Project Office at least 30 days before departure:
- Declaration of Participation in a Study Visit (Appendix No. 2 to the Regulations).
After submitting the documentation, participants must complete a travel application. According to Order No. 33 of the Rector of JU dated 1 April 2020, JU staff must submit travel applications via the Information Portal. JU Collegium Medicum staff submit paper applications.
According to Announcement No. 5 from the Vice-Rector for Education dated 27 January 2017, all full-time JU staff (excluding Collegium Medicum) must submit domestic travel applications via the Information Portal.
Note: Submit documents early (1-2 months before the planned departure) to secure tickets at favourable prices.
Based on the Declaration of Participation and the travel application, subsistence allowances will be prepared and available for collection at the International Relations Office (DWM) 7 days before departure.
Within 14 days of completing the study visit, participants must settle the trip with the International Relations Office (DWM) by submitting the following documents:
- Hotel invoice;
- Travel tickets (air, train, coach) along with boarding passes;
- Report on the practical application of acquired teaching competencies (Appendix No. 5 of the Regulations);
- Original certificate confirming the completion of the teaching programme at the host institution, signed by an authorised representative.

Recruitment will be conducted through a competitive process among those who complete the obligatory support track. Study visits are planned for the 2025/2026, 2026/2027, and 2027/2028 academic years.
